Young Waikato Women's Wellbeing

Wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. Our Young Waikato Women’s Wellbeing Baseline Report revealed that young women and sex/gender diverse people in our region experience lower wellbeing than the national average.

Top priorities identified include safe and stable environments, holistic wellness, and better access to services—especially for those aged 16–24 and those living outside urban centres. The report also highlighted the need for inclusive spaces, financial literacy, and vocational support.

These insights are shaping our focus. We’re turning data into action—amplifying voices, creating opportunities, and advocating for systemic change so that every young woman and gender-diverse person in Waikato can live a life they value.

Collaboration

We believe collaboration is key to creating lasting change in the lives of young Waikato women.  Right now, we’re mapping services and identifying gaps for young Waikato women, especially in rural and underserved areas.

We’re not just connecting young women to support, we’re also helping organisations and services reach the people they’re here to help. Resourcing is tight, and we know we’re better when we work together.

By linking people, organisations, and ideas, we’re building a stronger, more supportive ecosystem. One that makes it easier for young women to access the help they need, when they need it.

Events & Activities

We love a celebration and we love celebrating women even more! Every year, we host events for International Women’s Day and Suffrage Day that celebrate and uplift women, honouring their strength, stories, and achievements.

We also run self-defence workshops, retreats, and other empowering activities co-designed by and for young Waikato women. These events are all about building confidence, fostering community, and boosting wellbeing, while having a great time doing it! Follow our social for all the details.
